Rapid, located on Renshaw street, once a home and garden store has been transformed into an temporary art gallery and the main information center about the biennial. It is home to a selection of artists work including Oren Eliav, NS Harsha, Ryan Trecartin and many others. Parts of the gallery space is just left unattended by art work, just empty rooms that challanged me to really explore the space more and i feel it emphasized what they had done in turning empty space into an art gallery. The two pieces that really stood out for me in this exhibition were Ryan Trecartin's piece the trilogy project and Ns Harsha's piece sky gazers.
RYAN TRECARTIN
Ryan trecartin's piece is located in the basement of rapid consisting of three videos spread across three rooms each with a different type of seating arrangement. The videos themselves consist of men dressed as women and women dressed as men i feel this video is commenting on modern day consumer lifestyles and the mtv generation. I found it difficult to sit through the duration of even one of the films but i did however view each one. Each one was as strange as each other in the same style depicting different situations. This was an interesting piece that was foe me quite a remembably piece from the biennial, purly because of the unusaul yet somehow worringly fimiliar imagery.

NS HARSHA
As you step into the room the first thing you notice is the floor is a painting with a sea of faces, looking down and you have one perspective of looking down on the hundreds of faces looking up giving the feeling of being empowered. As you look up you notice a mirrored ceiling which places you directly in the piece as one of the many faces starring up which for me shifts the experience from being empowered to being just one of the hundreds gazing up. I’m particularly interested in this piece because its one of the more interactive (place yourself within the piece) pieces within the rapid gallery and throughout the biennial these are the types of artwork that are really sticking in my mind. I find it quite interesting how artists investigate and transform a space completely and rapid its self has been transformed from a shop to a gallery.
