SEEL STREET SOUND EXIBITION

The seel street sound exhibition which is set up in a building that was, in previous to the biennial empty that used to be a former bank and an abandoned night club development was set up by a new york based group No Longer Empty.
I approached this exhibition with a kind of excitement and expectation as my current project is sound orientated. There were several pieces scattered throughout the seel street building including work by artists Juan Cruz, Joe Diebes, Clemencia Echeverri, Phil Jeck and Ray Lee. Some of them deal with sound directly like Joe Diebes ferocious cello piece that actually drove my friend out of the room as it was too irritating and others that are more thought provoking like Lee Rays which was a deceptive piece which consisted of several red lights which appear to be running along the floor that run in a sequence which is triggered by anyone entering the space in the basement then lights come on and you see that the lights are actually placed upon rods that tower over the ground.
It was interesting to see how sound is being thought about by artists exploring new technologies in a visual way. This exihibition influenced my work in massivly it made me think about sound art in a visual sense and got me thinking about site specific work aswell.
